description
Included in UNESCO’s 2016 list of Cultural Heritage, Le Corbusier’s extraordinary Capitol Complex in Chandigarh—designed in 1951—has been widely acclaimed for its celebration of an independent nation embracing modernity. At the heart of the Complex are the Haute Cour, the Secretariat, and the Assemblée building, each exemplifying the architect’s bold vision. Furnishing these landmark interiors were armchairs unified by a recurring design feature: the distinctive “V”-shaped support structure. The only visible wooden elements are the armrests, connecting crossbars, and the external joints between the arms and the backrest. Generously padded armrests almost entirely envelop the wood, creating a rounded, geometric profile that, along with the sculpted seat and back cushions, conveys an immediate sense of comfort—without compromising the piece’s elegance and clarity of form.
This reissue stays true to the original design, offering a classic version in teak, as well as two contemporary alternatives in natural or black-stained oak.
