One of the key influences that shaped modern Japanese design was the Mingei (Folk Crafts) Movement, which celebrated practical beauty and the universal appeal of everyday objects. Its principles remain present in contemporary Japanese design and have also inspired the creation of the Press Lamp. Here, glass tubes are compressed as if pinched, with the light source fitted into the narrowed space. Rather than relying on a rigid metal mould, the shaping process allows the glass to form organically, resulting in soft contours and giving each lamp a unique, individual character.
