Flat Stones Sculpted by Wind and Water
Inspired by nature—and specifically by the smooth, time-worn stones found along Japanese riverbanks—the Gogan collection takes its name from the traditional term for these sculptural forms. These stones, used to both protect and beautify the edges of rivers and lakes, serve as a metaphor for the sofa’s design: solid yet softened by the elements, irregular yet harmonious.
The forms of the sofa and armchair evoke flat stones shaped by wind and water—gentle, organic, and welcoming. Much like in traditional stone sculptures, where balance is achieved through careful positioning, Gogan finds equilibrium in its asymmetry. The seemingly heavy volumes appear light and grounded at the same time, playing with gravity and perception.
The seat cushions are deliberately irregular, with a slight rearward tilt in their center of gravity, enhancing comfort and allowing for a lower backrest profile. The connection between the seat and backrest is achieved through sculptural abutments, giving the sofa a floating quality—as if it’s lightly hovering above the floor.
