The Foster 520 armchair reinterprets the tradition of the club armchair – the development of which in Germany Walter Knoll was involved in at the beginning of the twentieth century. The designers at Foster + Partners have made masterly use of the materials: saddle leather with its striking grain for the back, natural fabrics for the seat. The elaborately finished decorative seam emphasises the sweeping lines. With a slight swivel action or quite still on legs: powerful elegance with a perfect dose of laissez-faire – essential for long evenings of charming hospitality. The armchair is also available in all fabric and leather combinations as well as completely covered in fabric or leather.

His years observing Mancunian architecture subsequently influenced his works, and was inspired to pursue a career in architecture after a treasurer clerk noticed his sketches and interest in Manchester's buildings while he worked at Manchester Town Hall.
