One of the most striking objects in the Eames House, designed by Charles and Ray Eames, was a large wooden whale over two metres long—an anonymous piece of North American folk art. The Eameses, known for surrounding themselves with their own creations and an eclectic array of folk objects, cherished this playful sculpture. Their legendary home was filled with items discovered during their travels, in nature, and everyday life—each selected for its unique design or form. As Ray once noted, "We never collected anything just as collectors, but because something was inherent in the piece that made it seem like a good idea to be looking at."
